In 2004, Chris was admitted as a Solicitor and Barrister of the Supreme Court of New South Wales before being further admitted to practice in the High Court of Australia. For several years Chris was mentored by both Nicolas Moir and Paul Rosser QC in Criminal Law, where he has come to appear in all of the New South Wales Criminal Courts, including the New South Wales Supreme Court and the Court of Criminal Appeal.
Since 2006, Chris has volunteered his time to the University of Newcastle by assisting Moot Trials for potential Law Graduates and also donates his time to the Legal Center for legal advice sessions.
In 2007, Nicolas Moir, Chris O’Brien and Paul Rosser QC formed a Partnership known as Nicolas Moir and Associates Trading as Morelaw Solicitors and Barristers. 2007 was also the year that Chris became the convener of Lawyers for the Broadmeadow Traffic Offenders Program, at which he frequently lectures the programs legal topics. In early 2010, the Morelaw Partnership ended with both Nicolas Moir and Paul Rosser moving on to work independently as Barristers within the Newcastle Region. The Firm to this day, however, continues to associate with and instruct both Nicolas and Paul in their respective roles in the Criminal Justice System.
In January 2012, a new Partnership formed between the now Company Directors of the Firm Christopher O’Brien, Kristy Winter and Damien O’Brien. The Firm was thereafter known as O’Brien Winter Partners.
